After their second straight undefeated season and Mountain Valley Conference title, the Boothbay Region Boys' tennis team made a strong showing in the Western Class C playoffs. The boys defeated Hall-Dale 5-0 in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, May 28, but couldn't get past Waynflete in the semi-finals on Saturday, losing 4-1. "We had a very good season," said Coach Jay Krouse. "One of our goals was to make the finals this year, and we fell just a little bit short of that. "But it's been a good run with these graduating seniors," Krouse said. "They've closed out a great four years." It's been a great four years indeed. The boys have been undefeated in regular season play for three of the last four years, have won the MVC conference title for three of the last four years, and boast a 47-1 record for the last four years. Boothbay continued their streak and hosted Hall-Dale for the Western Class C quarter-finals on Wednesday. The boys earned an overwhelming victory, giving up only one set in the entire match. Ezra Poore played first singles against Nate Miller and won, 6-0, 6-0. Jeffrey Yau played second singles against Tom Meeham and did the same, with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Quincy Browne easily defeated his third singles opponent Corey Harris 6-0, 6-1. First doubles partners Ryan Andrews and Dan Boyd defeated Hall-Dale's Tim Gordon and Mike Peterson 6-0, 6-0, and Nick Squillante and Adam Benedict defeated Brian Bossie and Mike Truland 6-0, 6-0 at second doubles. Boothbay hosted Waynflete for the semi-finals on Saturday, but wasn't able to keep their momentum going and lost 4-1. "I felt that we were very competitive against Waynflete," said Krouse. "They were a great team, and I felt that we could play with them. Losing the match was a little bit of a disappointment." Ezra Poore played first singles against Jonny Asen and lost, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, and Malcom Creighton-Smith defeated Jeff Yau 6-2, 6-4 at second singles. Boothbay's third singles player, Quincy Browne, lost his match to Ben Whipple 6-0, 6-3, and first doubles team Ryan Andrews and Dan Boyd lost their match to Kai Thaler and Charlie Miller, 6-2, 6-3. Boothbay's only win came from second doubles team Tru Nguyen and Nick Squillante, who came from behind to defeat Waynflete's Nick Mazurozski and Clark Smith, 0-6, 6-3, 6-
