American Legion, Post #36
Bill English
Post #36 served almost 150 patrons at its last buffet breakfast on Sunday, May 25. The cooking, service and clean-up crews were really kept busy. The Legion thanks all the attendees for their support. There will be another breakfast on this coming Sunday, June 8. The menu can be seen in the "What's Happening" column of this edition of the paper. Hope to see you there. The Legion thanks the Register for its coverage of the Memorial Day parades. Further, the Legion's thanks to all those involved were covered in a letter to the editor in last week's Register. Said letter did forget to mention the fine job Lew Curtis did as Parade Marshal. And, wasn't it good to see Medal of Honor winner Jay Zeamer? There was a very good memorial service at the Methodist Church on Memorial weekend Sunday. Unfortunately, veterans related attendance was sparse -- a Gold Star Mother, an Auxiliary member and 10 Legionnaires. Enough said. The Third District Convention was held at the Rockland Post 1 last Sunday, June 1. Those with a computer and access to the Internet can visit Department Headquarters at www.mainelegion. org. And, if you are interested, the Legion's Drill and Ceremonies Manual is available at http://www.adtdl. army.mil/cgi-bin/atdi.dll/fm/22-5/toc. htm. The number one resolution before the department's convention is proposed by Post #36. Resolved, that the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion be updated using more readily understood language in common use. The resolution has been endorsed by the Lincoln County and Third District organizations. This year's drawing for the department's 50/50 raffle will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2003 at the state convention. The income from this raffle is used to cover unexpected expenses that occur during the year. Hope all area Legionnaires noted that there were three pictures associated with Post #36 in the most recent edition of the Maine Legionnaire. One showed Past Commander Lew Curtis delivering a Blue Star flag, the other two showed workers at a recent Sunday breakfast.
