Course Taught by Local Actress
The Boothbay Civic Association, in preparation for its Cross River
Center,
a cultural center it plans to build on the Cross River, is offering an
acting course taught by experienced actress Mary Linda Rapelye of
Boothbay.
The course will be held on eight consecutive Tuesday evenings 7-8:30
p.m.
beginning April 15 through June 3 at the Boothbay Railway Village Town
Hall.
The sessions will cover: analyzing and creating a character; analyzing
a
scene; blocking a scene; acting the action and not the emotion; preparing
a monologue; and stage techniques of acting versus those of film and
television.
The course will also provide students with on-camera experience, advice
on
how to get work in the acting field, and personal anecdotes from Rapelye's
professional career as an actress.
The course may also include a field trip to the Actor's Studio in New
York
if there is sufficient interest, at an additional cost.
The course itself costs $40 per student and is open to all ages. If
there
are a number of younger children, an additional class may be added at an
earlier hour.
Rapelye has performed on stage and in film and television.
She acted in several Shakespearean plays in regional theatre in
Missouri
and Connecticut, and she appeared in the movies "In Cold
Blood," "Marooned," and "Blind Ambition."
On TV, she played the role of Maggie Crawford on CBS' "As the World
Turns" for five years. She also played Faith Kipling on ABC's
"One Life to Live," and appeared in "Star Trek,"
"Ironsides," and "Medical Center."
She received her bachelor's degree in theatre arts and music
history/voice
at the University of Kansas.
The acting course will provide a foretaste of classes the future Cross
River Center will offer, and will also serve as a fund-raiser for the BCA
in building the center and obtaining grants for the project.
Those who would like to sign up for the course may call Mary Linda
Rapelye
