Armendaris, Jacobson Win Harbor Selectmen's Seats, Carbone To Get Recount

Kevin Burnham

A recount of the second selectman's position in Boothbay Harbor elected on Monday will be held Friday, May 10 at 4:30 at the Boothbay Harbor Town Office, according to Town Clerk Pat Wheeler.

Joyce Armendaris, with 263 votes, won one of the two selectmen's positions which were up for election and, after election officials counted the ballots four times before Monday's town meeting, Bob Jacobson was declared the winner of the second seat with 211 votes over Tom Carbone who had 209 votes. However, because the officials came up with four different results when recounting the ballots, Carbone asked for a challenge of the vote, which will be held Friday.

Also receiving votes for selectman were Barbara Lorrain, who was running for re-election, with 176 votes, followed by Robert Muller with 148 and Allan Barter with 120.

In the only other contested race, Kristina Hamrin defeated Bill Spencer, 286 to 269, for the three-year Community School District Board of Trustees seat.

Sewer district trustee Alden Jordan was re-elected with 576 votes. Larry Colcord, with 544 votes, will remain on the CSD School Committee and long-time assessor Fred Pratt was re-elected once again with 502 votes.

At town meeting, moderator, Carl R. "Chip" Griffin III announced that a total of 616 votes were cast in the election, including 17 new voters and 44 absentee votes. The vote total represented about 32 percent of the registered voter list.
