Expressions In Silver On Exhibit In Wiscasset
Silver Spirit in Wiscasset presents a special exhibit, "Silver
Expressions," showcasing the work of three Maine jewelers, Clare Bridge,
Jackie Lowell, and Kim Roos. Their silver pieces display an aesthetic of
form and design that both complements and enhances Silver Spirit's
collection from silversmiths of southeast Asia.
An opening reception will be held for the artists on Saturday, May 11,
from 2 - 6 p.m. The show ends on May 31.
Lowell's earrings, necklaces and cuffs combine silver and stone in
uncluttered beauty. Pendants utilize bands of silver and beads to show off
large unusual stones. Silver frames elemental shapes of picasso marble,
unakite, dalmation agate, and malachite. Earrings of hammered silver blend
simplicity and elegance. She lives and works in Wiscasset.
Bridge describes her pieces as "wearable sculptures." Her organic
forms reflect her deep connection with the natural environment. A unique
choker twines around the neck ending in a leaf-like silver shape. Her
cuffs, earrings, pins and neckpieces appear to adorn the body with the
gifts of the land.
Roos of Jonesport begins each piece with silver sterling wire and sheet
metal and transforms the rigid metal into flowing necklaces, earrings and
pins. Her limited edition and one-of-a-kind designs are whimsical and echo
her joy in pushing the metal beyond boundaries of traditional
metalsmithing.
