Edgecomb Selectmen To Appoint Schmid Sub-Committee
Charlotte Boynton
The Edgecomb selectmen discussed the Schmid Preserve with the chairman of the Preserve's Advisory committee Monday evening. Bob Leone told the board, "We have a cookbook of management actions and we are trying to take care of them. We waste time in the committee because we do not have clear objectives," Leone said. "We are trying to show solid management without funds," he said. Leone suggested appointing a sub-committee to focus on grants. The selectmen agreed it would be a good idea. Robert Zak, the selectman on the Schmid Advisory committee said it would be a good idea to have a sub-committee committed to writing grants only. The committee need funds to build a parking lot, as well as to purchase land that will join the two parcels of land at the Preserve. ATC Tower Agreement Signed The selectmen signed the agreement between the town and the ATC Realty Company for the removal cost of the two cellular towers in town. There is a removal bond agreement for the tower on Parson's Point Rd. ATC Realty will establish an interest bearing escrow account in the amount of $25,000 for the removal of the tower on the Griffin property should that become a necessity. Final School Bond Signed The selectmen voted unanimously to accept the final school bond for the Edgecomb Eddy School. Town Clerk Claudia Coffin and selectman John Eaton spent much of the meeting signing the necessary documents required by the state. Tax Acquired Property Sale A resident of Portland approached the selectmen on the possible sale of some tax acquired property owned by the town. The interested buyer was told by the selectmen the town would consider selling the piece of property to him. However, they could only issue a quick-claim deed. Getting clear title to the property would be his responsibility, they said. The potential buyer said he would check into things and get back to them. Meeting With Melrose The three Edgecomb selectmen will attend the meeting October 25, in Wiscasset to meet with Department of Transportation Commissioner John Melrose. Edgecomb is one of five towns invited to meet with Melrose to discuss the bypass options that are still on the table. Other towns invited include: Woolwich, Newcastle, Alna, and Wiscasset. The meeting will be held at the Wiscasset Middle School Cafeteria from 7 to 8:30 p.m. |
