The Boothbay region Knights of Columbus Council #10356 has generously donated
some of the proceeds from the sale of Tootsie Rolls to help fund the
traveling expenses of a local Special Olympian who is going to North Carolina
in late June to compete in the World Games.
On Saturday, April 17, Grand Knight Patrick Kendley and Council members Joe
Fodera and Tony Squillante Sr. met with Special Olympian Joey Ranco and his
coach and teacher, Toby LeConte at the YMCA to make the presentation.
``The Knights have always had a special feeling for the Special Olympics and
we're glad we can help Joey with his expenses,'' said Kendley. He said a
supper is being planned for June to raise more money for Joey. The date, time
and location will be announced.
Joey will compete in gymnastics at the World Games, which will be held June
25 through July 5.
LeConte will accompany Joey and 37 other athletes from Maine to North
Carolina.
``I would like to thank the Knights of Columbus for the donation. They have
been a big supporter of our local Special Olympians for over six years,''
said LeConte.
